This Week at St. Gabriel

Just a few friendly reminders for this upcoming week:

    - Pizza Orders are due tomorrow ( February 1st) if you have not handed them in,
    - Winter Walk to school day is this upcoming Wednesday. We will stay outside a few extra minutes after the bell at 9 am to walk around our school yard.
    - We will celebrate National Sweater Day on Thursday. We will lower our heat at school to conserve energy costs and wear a big comfy sweater!
   - Both Thursday and Friday of this week there will be dental screening for all Kindergarten students.

Hoping to have a great week!

Family Literacy Day is tomorrow!

Wednesday is Family Literacy Day and students are invited to participate in a book exchange. If you haven't already, please have your child bring in a book to exchange for another donated book. Your child will bring home the "new" book to read with the family.
The Kinders in Room 153 will visit the Book Exchange on Thursday morning.

Image result for booksFamily Literacy Day is this upcoming Wednesday, January 27th.   Our Learning Commons is currently trying to collect books for this event. We ask that if students have books that they would like to donate for this exchange to bring them to school this week. We would like to have donations in by this upcoming Tuesday, January 26th at the latest.  Unfortunately, even if a student brings in many books, it might not be a situation where that student can then get that amount of books. It will be based on how many books are brought in by the school population in general. For example, if a student brings in about three books, they might only be able to get one book in exchange.

We appreciate the support and the donations!

Snuggle Up and Read!

I hope everyone has enjoyed a little extra snuggles since our new reading program was sent home. A gentle reminder that all Snuggle Bags (duo tang, book (SK only) with ziplock bag) are to be sent back to school tomorrow.

Snuggle Bags will be sent home again on Wednesday for all (with new readers for SK students). Please keep your Snuggle Bag with you at home so that you always have it handy to record the books you have been reading. Also, SK students are welcome to read their reader several times throughout the week.

Library books are also due on Monday.  Our next visit is on Wednesday!

WOW! (Happy New Year!)

Happy New Year!!!  We wish all families a wonderful, beautiful, and healthy 2016.

What a whirl wind December was....I opened the blog and can't believe that I haven't been in touch since December 15th!!!  Now that we are into our second week back at school, teachers and students are getting their grooves back!

We have jumped right into learning as though we never left.  We are focusing on number building, quantity, reviewing letters and sounds and now applying that knowledge to the high frequency words that are found in the books we read. Winter has also been a great focus with freezing water experiments, snow filled sensory bins, painting on tin foil, and writing about winter activities.

We have prepared a Snuggle Up and Read program for all kinders to participate in.  Please look for them in the near future in your child's backpack.  Hopefully this Wednesday :)

Lastly, I have copied the PLAYDOUGH CLUB LIST for parents as a reminder.  Thanks again for helping us keep fresh playdough in the classroom.

Home Made Playdough Recipe
You Need…
2 Cups of All Purpose Flour
2 Tablespoons of vegetable oil
½ cup of salt
2 Tablespoons of Cream of Tartar (found in the baking isle - it’s really a powder!)
1.5 cups of boiling water (add in increments until texture is just right)
food colouring

HOW TO...

In a large mixing bowl mix the flour, cream of tartar, salt, and oil.  Next, add food colouring TO THE BOILING WATER (stir).  In increments, add coloured boiling water to the other ingredients in your mixing bowl.  Stir continuously until it becomes a sticky, combined dough. **Add sparkles, spices (cinnamon, pumpkin spice), mint extract, hair conditioner to jazz your playdough up (all optional!!)** Allow it to cool down then take it out of the bowl and knead it vigorously for a couple of minutes until all of the stickiness has gone. * This is the most important part of the process, so keep at it until it’s the perfect consistency! * If it remains a little sticky then add a touch more flour until just right.  And...Voila!!!
